How Vibe analyzers were used

Grain length and width of rice mutants with an altered alkali spreading response were measured with a Vibe QM3 Rice Analyzer, supporting genetic analysis showing the trait is controlled by a single recessive mutation.

Study overview

Alkali spreading value is used to estimate gelatinization temperature and cooking quality in rice. This study identified rice mutants with an altered response in the alkali digestion (spreading) test, evaluating grain dimensions - length and width, measured with a Vibe QM3 Rice Analyzer - alongside grain weight and the modified alkali spreading assay. Genetic analysis of segregating populations indicated that a single recessive gene mutation underlies the altered alkali digestion trait observed in these mutants.
