How Vibe analyzers were used

A Vibe QM3 rice analyzer measured 1000-grain weight, grain width, and grain length on engineered herbicide-tolerant rice lines to confirm the AHAS mutation did not compromise grain quality.

Study overview

Acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS) is an essential enzyme in branched-chain amino acid biosynthesis and a target for herbicide tolerance engineering in crops. This study engineered a herbicide-tolerant rice line expressing an AHAS variant with a single amino acid deletion (AHAS-ΔW548), characterizing its enzymatic and structural properties alongside field performance. Panicles from individual plants were collected to determine seed-setting rate, grains per panicle, and yield per plant, and a Vibe QM3 rice analyzer system was used to measure 1000-grain weight, grain width, and grain length, confirming the engineered herbicide tolerance did not come at the cost of grain size or yield-related grain traits.
