ISO 7301:2021, as amended by Amendment 1:2024, sets the minimum specification for rice (Oryza sativa L.) in international trade, covering husked and milled rice, aromatic or not, parboiled or not, intended for direct human consumption. Glutinous (waxy) rice falls outside its scope. It defines organoleptic, physical, and chemical characteristics along with methods for determining extraneous matter, broken kernels, and defective kernels. Vibe workflows can measure some of the same visual characteristics — broken kernels, chalkiness, and whiteness — for internal comparison and visual screening. Characteristics outside image-based measurement require the applicable official or laboratory method, and this does not constitute an official ISO determination.
