About this standard

CXS 198-1995, adopted by the Codex Alimentarius Commission and amended through 2019, sets quality and safety requirements for husked rice, milled rice, and parboiled rice intended for direct human consumption; glutinous (waxy) rice is outside its scope. It defines classification by size and degree of milling, limits for foreign matter and defective kernels, and contaminant and hygiene provisions. Vibe workflows can measure some of the same visual characteristics — broken kernels, foreign matter, and defect indicators — for internal comparison and visual screening. Characteristics outside image-based measurement require the applicable official or laboratory method, and this does not constitute an official Codex determination.
